Biography
In the Cologne techno explosion spanning the early to late 1990s, two standout figures were Khan—born Can Oral and not to be confused with his brother Cam Oral, aka Jammin' Unit—and Dr. Walker, born Ingmar Koch. Under the Khan & Walker name they issued several joint recordings across the mid to late portion of the decade. Their first effort together came in 1994 as Global Electronic Network, with the Times Square 12" appearing on Mille Plateaux; a handful of further releases followed on the label, among them the 1995 full-lengths Rolleiflex Weltron Time Square (MP 10) and Electronic Desert (MP 14). By then the pair had already established individual reputations as Khan and Dr. Walker, prompting them to record instead as Khan & Dr. Walker beginning with the 1995 album Radiowaves for Rising High (RSN 32). Additional projects materialized, including the late-1996 full-length Schleichfahrt on Disko B (DB 37). Toward the close of the decade, however, the collaborations ended. Khan had relocated to New York City in 1992 while Walker stayed in Germany, rendering further joint work distant and difficult; each musician had meanwhile grown prominent in their own right and concentrated on solo releases rather than shared efforts.
