Biography
Since the mid-1970s, bassist Kieran Overs has maintained an active presence within Toronto’s jazz community. Though widely sought after in supporting roles, he has earned critical recognition for the compositional work featured in his own expanded ensembles. On his personal recordings, his solo playing adopts an approach reminiscent of Charlie Haden, a contemporary method that moves through harmonic progressions toward simpler melodic statements. In accompanying capacities he has appeared alongside a broad range of artists, among them Chet Baker, Sonny Stitt, Zoot Sims, Kenny Wheeler, Don Pullen, Barry Harris, and Harold Mabern. He has also pursued projects beyond jazz, collaborating extensively with Roger Whittaker.
