Cam Farrar from Australia works under the Kikumoto Allstars name, shaping his productions directly after the foundational Chicago house sound of the 1980s. Childhood exposure to Devo through Australian television first sparked his interest in electronic music, after which he spent his teenage years playing drums and writing songs in bands rooted in punk and new wave before redirecting his energies to electronica. During the late 2000s he began issuing singles on DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolos label, crediting the example of originators Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard, Adonis, and DJ Pierre while choosing his alias to salute Roland engineer Tadao Kikumoto, creator of the TR-909, TB-303, and related machines. His first album, issued in May 2009 under the plainly descriptive title House Music, was realized exclusively on vintage Roland analog synthesizers and drum machines.
