Kill the Lights surfaced in 2019 as an international metal supergroup whose roster draws from Wales’ Bullet for My Valentine, Canada’s Threat Signal, and the United States’ Still Remains and Throw the Fight. Its sound fuses the breakneck velocity of metalcore with the classic stylings of NWOBHM.

Drummer Michael “Moose” Thomas, co-founder of Bullet for My Valentine, vocalist James Clark of Throw the Fight, guitarist Jordan Whelan from Still Remains, and guitarist Travis Montgomery of Threat Signal assembled the project in 2018. Anchored by neck-snapping melodic metalcore that generates expansive anthemic choruses, the quartet issued its first punishing, hook-driven singles—“Shed My Skin” and “Plagues”—on Fearless Records in early 2020 while preparing a debut full-length for later that year.

The COVID-19 pandemic failed to derail those plans, and The Sinner appeared on schedule, earning favorable notices. Live opportunities were curtailed, yet the record connected strongly with metal audiences; the band resumed touring at the earliest opportunity and tracked its follow-up, 2024’s Death Melodies, which marked a clearer consolidation of its collective voice.
