Biography
Jonathan Davis, Korn's frontman, grew weary of nu metal's boundaries and first explored dubstep on the band's 2011 release The Path of Totality, then revealed plans to push the fusion even further through his new Killbot endeavor. Recording as J Devil alongside producers Sluggo and Tyler Blue, he assembled a four-song EP that blended aggressive dubstep wobble with underground electronic textures and emo leanings. Much as Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford's excursion into electro-rock had unsettled metal traditionalists, Killbot's tracks divided Davis' audience, drawing complaints from purists who deemed the shift too extreme while earning approval from others more open to the change. Issued by Dim Mak, Sound Surgery entered Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart at number 13 during November 2012.
