Kim & Reggie Harris, the husband-and-wife folk duo known for stirring performances, fuse their shared passion for music with a dedication to social causes through skillfully crafted, emotionally resonant songs. Based in upstate New York, the pair has appeared together onstage for more than twenty-five years, presenting traditional numbers, contemporary pieces, and original compositions on recordings that include In the Heat of the Summer, In the Heat of the Night, and Steal Away: Music of the Underground while also appearing at the Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Smithsonian Institute. Freedom songs and spirituals showcase the duo at their most compelling, yet the Harrises’ assured songwriting lends equal weight to their own material, which spans humorous, historical, personal, and environmentally conscious themes. Their sound draws from folk, jazz, pop, rock, and gospel sources. Guide My Feet, issued in 1999, gathers numerous tracks drawn from and inspired by the civil rights movement and features contributions by Magpie and Pete Seeger. Rock of Ages appeared the next year. The couple’s 2000s releases sustained this socially engaged direction: Simplicity (2002) reflected on the aftermath of 9/11, Let My People Go! (2005) joined Jewish and African-American artists in a tribute to freedom, and Get on Board: Underground Railroad and Civil War Songs, Vol. 2 (2007) followed the 1998 album Steal Away: Songs of Underground Railroad.
