Biography
Initially studying electronic music in New York while absorbing the approaches of experimental composers John Cage and Terry Riley, Kim Cascone later relocated to San Francisco and launched the Silent label. That imprint became recognized primarily for releases by his own projects PGR, Heavenly Music Corporation, Thessalonians, and Spice Barons, together with the 1992 acid homage Fifty Years of Sunshine, which assembled Nurse with Wound, Psychic TV, Hawkwind, and Timothy Leary. Following an intense burst of activity throughout the early 1990s, Cascone stepped away to serve as sound engineer at Thomas Dolby’s Headspace studios. Active recording resumed with Blue Cube in 1999, the first album issued under the Kim Cascone name. Cathode Flower appeared later the same year, succeeded in 2001 by Residualism on Ritonell through Mille Plateaux.
