Biography
Born in New York, USA, Nazarian earned a Magna Cum Laude degree from Ithaca College. In 1987 she helped establish New York Voices alongside Darmon Meader, Peter Eldridge, Caprice Fox—all fellow Ithaca alumni—and Sara Krieger. The ensemble shared stages with Ray Brown, Joshua Redman, the Count Basie Orchestra, Jim Hall, George Benson and Paquito D’Rivera. As a featured soloist she joined Brown and Stanley Turrentine for the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre production Indigo In Motion. Additional performances and occasional recordings took place with guitarist Joe Negri on Afternoon In Rio, the 21st Century Swing Band and El Eco, a Latin ensemble based in Boston, Massachusetts. She has also supplied vocals for numerous radio and television jingles. Nazarian originated the interactive children’s concert Long Ago And Far Away and appeared on the JVC Records CD Red Dragonfly In New York, issued exclusively in Japan and featuring Japanese folk songs reframed in Western idioms with English translations. Further educational efforts include a children’s radio series also titled Long Ago And Far Away, a multi-media CD-Rom, and a book and video/DVD focused on vocal technique. She maintains a private teaching studio while leading clinics, workshops and master classes.
