Emerging from Omaha's tight-knit yet fiercely rivalrous underground rap community in Nebraska, King Iso navigated a circuitous route fueled by his relentless musical ambition. The emcee progressed from bouts of homelessness to an initial deal with Twisted Insane's Brainsick Muzik, only to sever that association before forging a connection with the renowned chopper stylist Tech N9ne. Persistent effort across multiple years produced an array of intense mixtapes, among them 2015's The Insanity Plea, while opening doors to partnerships with higher-profile artists.

A 1989 birth into a military household meant frequent relocations for Iso until he settled in Omaha during childhood. His stepfather introduced him to classic hip-hop records during those formative years, prompting Iso to begin crafting his own material at age 13. Early immersion in the rapid, polysyllabic approaches of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony alongside the West Coast chopper movement helped shape his swift, adaptable flow from the outset. Adolescence intertwined rap pursuits with gang involvement, the latter culminating in incarceration; after release, he confronted homelessness, modest employment, and efforts to exit street violence.

Initially performing as Reali-T, he issued the T-Virus mixtape in 2013 followed by Project Iso later that same year. The latter project prompted a shift to the Iso moniker and an accelerated output that encompassed the multi-volume Different series plus the 2014 releases Venom and IKON. Association with Brainsick Muzik brought his breakthrough project, the well-received 2015 mixtape The Insanity Plea, which prompted the formal adoption of King Iso as his performing name.

After delivering 2016's Autophobia, friction arose with Brainsick Muzik stemming from grueling tour schedules and personal conflicts involving Twisted Insane. During one such tour, Tech N9ne attended a Kansas City performance after industry associates highlighted King Iso's abilities; the introduction blossomed into friendship and a guest spot on Tech's "Bad JuJu" from the 2018 album Planet. Speculation that King Iso had quietly departed Brainsick to join Strange Music intensified strains, prompting an abrupt split despite the inaccuracy of those claims. He then issued the independent 2018 album Dementia, an atmospheric and eclectic collection featuring appearances by Tech N9ne, Rittz, King Kash, and additional guests.
