Biography
Kira's gentle indie pop emerged after the Wuppertal, Germany native traded violin lessons for guitar instruction. Picking up the instrument prompted her to craft clever pop material while sidelining school obligations and entering tracks in beginner songwriting contests. Producer Michael Hagel judged one entry and persuaded the songwriter to relocate to Hamburg. A year of joint writing and studio work followed before composer Herbert Grönemeyer discovered the pair and placed Kira on his Grönland roster. The label issued her debut album Inauswendig in 2004, spotlighting the empowering single "Alte Frauen" and the wistful hit "Der Sog." Two years later the track "Wenn Du den Himmel Nicht Aufmachst" heralded her next release, the relaxed and spontaneous Goldfisch.
