Biography
Kitachi came together in 1993 with Mark Iration, Dennis Rootical and Jack Rubles as its members. Various projects by Iration had already appeared on Basic and Rhythm King Records, while Rootical had supplied bass for reggae figures such as Benjamin Zephaniah and recorded for Acid Jazz Records under the name Hazardous Dub Company. Their first album, A Strong Unit, came out on React Music’s Dope On Plastic label. Blending hip-hop, trip hop, house, roots and dub, the record was promoted through a European tour. Influences for the group know no bounds, since, as Iration put it, the music centers on ‘the vibe’. They supplied a remix of the track ‘Heroes’ to Roni Size and Reprazent. May 1999 saw the arrival of their follow-up album Stay Of Execution, which was backed by the single ‘Boost Dem’.
