Born in Tokyo, Japan, on September 13, 1961, K.K. Null first established himself as an experimental multi-instrumentalist. Although his initial focus was guitar, he soon expanded his creative roles to include composer, vocalist, electronics specialist, drummer, and even "Butoh" dancer. In 1984 he joined the noise/prog rock group Ybo2, which went on to issue multiple albums and EPs before the decade closed. He subsequently produced recordings for other musicians, founded the Nux Organization label, and collaborated with the self-described "progressive hardcore trio" Zeni Geva, John Zorn, Steve Albini, the Boredoms' Seiichi Yamamoto, Jim O'Rourke, Merzbow, Fred Frith, James Plotkin, Keiji Haino, Otomo Yoshihide, Jon Rose, Atau Tanaka, Zbigniew Karkowski, and Philip Samartzis, while also opening for Sonic Youth and Mike Patton. To date Null has issued more than 60 albums; in 2001 he inaugurated the Monster DVD project.
