Klaus Schønning, a versatile player of many instruments, emerged during the 1980s as one of the most recognized new age musicians on the European scene. His birthplace was Copenhagen, where he entered the world in 1954 and first explored composition while still a child, also taking up the piano. Teenage years brought an embrace of blues and rock, yet he simultaneously enrolled in college-level musicology courses. The year 1979 saw his debut album, Lydglimt, after which he enriched electronic synthesizer textures through precise arrangements that drew on an expansive instrumental roster featuring harp, zither, dulcimer, bouzouki, glockenspiel, and multiple guitars. Released in 1982, Nasavu stood as an early landmark in the ongoing development of new age music. Throughout the remainder of the 1980s he maintained a steady recording pace, launching a four-part series of Symphodysse works in 1989. His pieces further surfaced on the Hearts of Space anthology Cruisers 1.0.
