Biography
Knox crafts sincere, energetic indie pop as a vocalist, songwriter, and producer, drawing from Ed Sheeran’s reflective folk-pop and the Band Camino’s dynamic indie rock. Mainstream attention arrived in 2022 after “Sneakers” spread rapidly across social platforms; he built on that momentum the next year with his first major-label project, How to Lose a Girl in 7 Songs.
Springfield, Ohio, is where Knox Morris was born, though he grew up in nearby Dayton and devoted his teenage years entirely to music. While attending college he began performing at open-mike nights and quietly taught himself production in his bedroom. He withdrew from school during his sophomore year to chase a career in music, staying with his grandmother long enough to save for a move to Nashville, which took place in 2019.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought mixed results, curbing his social opportunities yet granting extended time to sharpen his songwriting. Nashville artist John Harvie discovered the material, placed several songs on one of his own albums, and thereby helped Knox obtain a publishing deal. The year 2022 marked his breakthrough, as “Leg Day,” featuring Harvie, and “Sneakers” each reached millions of streams; the latter track appeared on the 2023 debut EP How to Lose a Girl in 7 Songs.
Later that year came the follow-up EP I’m So Good at Being Alone?, which featured the major hit “Not the 1975” and guest spots from Nightly and Charlotte Sands. Knox opened 2024 with the buoyant pop single “Here’s to Us.”
