Nigerian artist Kohdee crafts vibrant Afropop built around memorable hooks, drawing from an eclectic range of influences that span R&B, reggae, hip-hop, and highlife. A series of self-released singles toward the end of the 2010s paved the way for his debut EP, The Link, which arrived in 2020. His profile grew further when he joined Troniq Music in 2023 and introduced himself on the label with the single “Mr. Fantastic.”

Born Ogechukwu Kohdee Otu in Port Harcourt, Kohdee developed an early passion for music. Gospel performances by his mother and a steady stream of reggae and dancehall records from his father filled the household. During secondary school a classmate sparked his interest in rapping and beat-making, prompting Kohdee to begin teaching himself songwriting and recording techniques. Though he pursued a degree in information technology, the lure of music proved stronger, leading him to move to Lagos and focus on a professional career.

Citing Wande Coal, Burna Boy, Drake, and Fela Kuti among his key inspirations, he started issuing independent tracks in 2017, sharpening his abilities as a singer, songwriter, and producer while steadily building a following. The Link, his first project, appeared in 2020 and included a feature from 1da Banton; its material drew directly from Kohdee’s own experiences, relationships, and emotional landscape. The following year he teamed with highlife outfit the Cavemen for “Mexebu,” an association that caught the attention of Troniq Music, the same imprint that had recently broken Afrobeats singer Oxlade. Troniq formally welcomed Kohdee in 2023 by issuing “Mr. Fantastic.”
