Biography
Kosaya Gora, whose name translates as "oblique mountain," unites the Russian indie electronic artists Kedr Livanskiy and Flaty. Although the pair has joined forces repeatedly across multiple years, the output issued under this banner steers clear of the upbeat dance material each has produced elsewhere. Their first long-form recording, the 2023 album Kosogor, mixes textures drawn from haunted folk, gloomy trip-hop, and ethereal dream pop with additional atmospheric layers.
Yana Kedrina, known professionally as Kedr Livanskiy, and Evgenii Fadeev, who records as Flaty, have operated as independent D.I.Y. musicians since the mid-2010s. Flaty oversaw production on every track of Livanskiy’s 2019 album Your Need and later appeared on her 2021 release Liminal Soul. Between 2020 and 2021 the two began working without a predetermined direction, arriving at a sound closer to psychedelic folk and lo-fi dream pop than the house-driven approach that shaped Livanskiy’s earlier records. Traveling through remote villages with a mobile studio, they captured material along the route. The resulting debut, Kosogor, appeared on 2MR in 2023.
