Biography
Originating from New Orleans, Louisiana, contemporary R&B vocalist and songwriter Kourtney Heart secured an early opportunity at age thirteen by entering a talent contest as a Beyoncé lookalike. Raj Smoove, the event’s DJ and a producer known for collaborations with Mannie Fresh and Lil Wayne, took notice. Prior to finishing high school, Heart scored a local hit with “My Boy,” which featured Magnolia Shorty, and landed a recording contract with Jive. A label shake-up, however, forced her to request release from the deal before her planned 2010 debut could appear. She kept Smoove as her manager and pressed forward independently, ultimately releasing her first album, Eye Dee Kay. That project was soon followed by A Gemini’s Diary and Are & Be, two assured and mature collections that belied her years.
