Biography
Kristoffer Bolander leads the Swedish alternative folk group Holmes yet has also built a separate career as a solo performer whose voice carries an ethereal, Neil Young-like quality paired with a sharp instinct for wistful songcraft. He fuses sturdy dream rock and introspective folk-pop drawing from the likes of Coldplay, Jónsi, and José González. His first solo release, the twelve-song I Forgive Nothing, arrived in 2015 and took its thematic cues from modernist polymath Samuel Beckett. Captured largely live across six days at Nacksving Studios in Gothenburg, the album enlisted Holmes lap steel guitarist Johan Björklund and his brother, drummer Mikael Björklund. Bolander’s 2018 follow-up, What Never Was Will Always Be, wove electronic textures into his already dense, atmosphere-heavy body of work.
