La Contra

Mexican ensemble La Contra unites four musicians with two dancers to present its self-described movement en contra, a style rooted in huapango and cumbia rhythms and modeled on the traditional la contra practice in which a caller, typically accompanied by live musicians, leads participants through assorted dances. The act first appeared in November 2001 by issuing its independently produced thirteen-track album Contra Todo.
