L.A. Takedown operates as a cinematic instrumental rock endeavor led by Los Angeles composer and musician Aaron M. Olson alongside a rotating roster of supporting players. The project draws equal influence from prog, Krautrock, and film and television scores, resulting in recordings such as the 2017 album II that function equally well as accompaniment for desert drives or seaside outings.

The name derives from a 1989 made-for-television crime thriller, and the project originated as Olson’s solitary home-recording effort. Its earliest outing, the cassette Top Down (Heater On), appeared on Burger Records in 2014, yet the official debut arrived the following year via Ribbon Music. That self-titled release consisted of a solitary 41-minute composition bearing the same name. Olson subsequently assembled a performing ensemble to present the work live, after which the group commenced touring and began accompanying films with live scores.

II was tracked at a home studio under producer Shane Stonebeck, with the lineup completed by keyboardists Ryan Adlaf and Jonah Olson, guitarists Miles Wintner and Stephen Heath, bassist Jessica Espeleta, and drummer Mose Wintner; Ribbon Music issued the album in 2017. Our Feeling of Natural High followed on Castle Face in 2020 and included contributions from Yukihiro Takahashi of Yellow Magic Orchestra and Nedelle Torrisi.
