Biography
Lake Heartbeat functions chiefly as an outlet for Jan "Janne" Kask’s individual songwriting, following his time in the Swedish pop outfit Brainpool. Earlier attempts at a solo path preceded the project, beginning with the 1998 single Summer Is Here—one year after his exit from Brainpool—and continuing with the 1999 arrival of his debut full-length, Wrestling My Case. Moderate domestic traction arrived via that album’s opening track, “Golden Heart.” Subsequent years brought a quieter chapter that included fatherhood and medical studies at Uppsala University. Work alongside Kallå Kåks and producer Dan Lissvik (Studio) yielded Trust in Numbers, Lake Heartbeat’s inaugural release on Service in 2009, a sleek, shimmery dance-pop affair that nodded to Rubies and Cut Copy.
