Biography
Gospel singer and pianist Lamont Jackson collaborated over the years with John P. Kee, Dr. Leonard Scott, Eric Brice, Jeanette Taylor, Clarissa Rhodes, Bryant Scott, and Tracy Schroeder. He assembled the choir New Beginning and secured a contract with Tyscot Records. In fall 2000 the ensemble issued its first project, the album The Time Is Now.
Born and raised in Hammond, LA, Jackson showed an early certainty that music and devotion to the Lord would dominate his path. While still a boy he refined his voice through appearances in neighborhood churches and later sang with several gospel ensembles. His initial major opportunity arrived during a John P. Kee concert when audience volunteers were invited onstage; the impromptu turn earned him a four-year tenure with Lee’s New Life Community Choir.
Upon departing that group he returned to Hammond and conducted seminars plus music workshops before launching New Beginning. Its vocalists included Tressa Hart, Melissa Judson, Natasha Watson, Keina Perry, Stacey Clark, Natashia Alexander, J. R. Hart, Helen Jones, and Raven Carr, while the instrumentalists were LaTarence Whitaker, Shawn Willis, Jason Hodge, Jermaine Hart, and Everett Sanders. The choir appeared at numerous events, among them the House of Blues Gospel Brunch and Rejoice in the Park. Jackson has recorded the songs “Will You Worship,” “Living This Life,” “Send Down Your Rain,” “Old Rugged Cross,” “Give Your Life to God,” “Prayer Changes Things,” and “Surely He’s Able.”
