Born in Sydney, Australia, Lana Cantrell rose to prominence as a pop singer across the 1960s and 1970s, drawing equally on Broadway standards and AM pop hits. Her father, a jazz musician, introduced her to music during childhood. She first sang in public at age ten, and by her teenage years she had become a familiar television personality throughout Australia. At nineteen she relocated to the United States intent on attempting everything “humanly possible,” an ambition that translated into initial forays into film and stage performance.

She settled in America during the early 1960s, yet her progress there remained measured at first. Eventually her individual vocal approach asserted itself, leading to regular appearances on the nightclub and television circuit. Recognition in the recording field followed through a sequence of RCA Victor albums issued in the late 1960s.

Beyond singing, Cantrell competed as an athlete and at one time held the table-tennis championship of New South Wales; her additional pursuits have encompassed yoga.
