Lanin's Arcadians

Genre: Jazz ,Early Jazz
Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
A septet assembled by the prolific band organizer Sam Lanin stood out chiefly through the participation of Miff Mole and Frank Trumbauer. Around 1924 the remaining musicians were Roy Johnson, Chuck Miller, Rube Bloom, Frank DiPrima, and Ward Archer; Johnson, Bloom, DiPrima, and Archer had already worked and recorded with Mole and Trumbauer as members of the Brunswick house band the Cotton Pickers, directed by clarinetist Bennie Kreuger. The ensemble is chiefly recalled today for two sides cut at a May 1924 New York date, among the earliest surviving recordings by the then 22-year-old Trumbauer.
