Hailing from New York, Last Burning Embers produce atmospheric music colored by post-punk and shaped in the vein of Mission of Burma, the Sound, and Killing Joke, together with later groups such as Swervedriver and Catherine Wheel. The lineup that formed the band in 1996 consisted of vocalist Ben Voss, guitarist and vocalist Dave Burokas, drummer Jack Rabid of Springhouse and The Big Takeover, and bassist Thomas Burke of Slambook. Their first appearance arrived on a tribute to Adrian Borland and The Sound, but 1999 dealt a severe setback when Leukemia took Voss’s life. The remaining three members nevertheless carried on and adopted the name Last Burning Embers. The EP Distress Call appeared at the same time as a November 2000 support slot for the Buzzcocks at Maxwell’s in Hoboken. Pink Frost records brought out the full-length Lessons in Redemption in late 2004.
