Emerging from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, rather than the sun-drenched California vibe their sound might evoke, the high-energy Christian pop-punk outfit Last Tuesday formed in 1999 around infectious melodies, optimistic themes, and shared Christian faith. Although frequent personnel shifts kept the group fluctuating between a trio and a quartet across the ensuing years, they cultivated a loyal audience via relentless roadwork and high-octane performances. The band issued two full-length albums—2001’s Dear Jessica and 2004’s Distractions and Convictions—plus the 2002 split release Composition with Curbsquirrels on Dug Records before signing with Mono vs. Stereo. Their uplifting messages, dual-vocal approach, and tuneful style merged with a fiercer sonic edge on the third studio effort and label debut Resolve. That May 2005 album, helmed by Relient K’s Matthew Thiessen alongside Joe Marlett (blink-182, Foo Fighters), earned acclaim from both reviewers and listeners. Become What You Believe arrived the following August. Late in 2006, vocalist/guitarist Steve Gee—the last original member—revealed his departure to focus on married life. Bassist Carl Brengle, drummer Chris Murk, and bassist Ben Hannigan completed a final tour without Gee in early 2007 before the band permanently disbanded.
