New Zealand native Kim Pflaum, performing as Laumė, crafts atmospheric electronic pop steeped in 1980s textures, pairing memorable lyrical hooks with an artful sense of space. After issuing her first EP, Bad Humors, under the name Madeira in 2016, she delivered her debut album, Waterbirth, in 2020.

Raised in Christchurch, Pflaum developed an early passion for creative pursuits and was already balancing music with graphic design studies when she helped launch the indie-rock group Yumi Zouma in 2013. She departed the band a year later to focus on solo work, moving to Auckland and refining a sleeker, more introspective style shaped by synths and electronic production techniques. Adopting the Madeira alias, she put out Bad Humors that same year while also collaborating with electronic artists such as Zimmer, Boycrush, and Swimgood. By 2020 she channeled these accumulated experiences into the full-length Waterbirth.
