Australian singer and songwriter Laura Imbruglia channels an authentic independent ethos through her distinctive indie pop, spanning the self-issued debut It Makes a Crunchy Noise from 2003 to the 2019 release Scared of You.

Born and raised in Sydney as one of four sisters, she watched her elder sibling Natalie achieve early prominence through acting before moving into singing. Laura forged her own course instead, picking up acoustic guitar and penning original songs. A steady presence in the Sydney circuit, she developed a devoted audience for her country-tinged indie pop style. In 2003 she self-released the EP It Makes a Crunchy Noise, then issued the single “My Dream of a Magical Washing Machine” two years afterward. The next year brought her self-titled debut album on Chatterbox Records; touring alongside Eels, Tegan and Sara, and Tenacious D placed her before steadily growing crowds. Her follow-up, The Lighter Side Of…, arrived in 2010 on her own Ready Freddie label, after which she relocated to Melbourne. Three years later she returned with the third album What a Treat, then stepped back from recording and performing.

Following nearly five years away from music, during which she hosted her own arts, comedy, and culture program Amateur Hour, Imbruglia reentered the studio with producer Nick Huggins. The resulting album Scared of You appeared early in 2019, introduced by the preceding singles “Tricks” and “Diptych.”
