Biography
Growing up on Detroit's east side amid the sounds of Rakim and Nas, cousins Kavary Capsico (Magnif) and Alfred Austin (Griot) discovered their mutual desire to create music while still young. They formed a performing partnership with Magnif handling DJ and production roles alongside Griot as MC, putting out "Mic Check" in 2003; the track drew enough local interest for J Dilla to produce the follow-up single "The Shining," with Phat Cat credited on the B-side "Represent." Madlib contributed to their 2005 single "High," which prompted a deal with Babygrande Records and the arrival of their debut album Soundvision: In Stereo before the end of that year.
