Biography
Born to pioneering missionary parents whose travels spanned Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia, Layton Howerton entered the world. Leukemia struck during his early childhood, yet he experienced a miraculous recovery.
Divine prompting toward pastoral ministry surfaced when he turned nineteen, but he set it aside to chase his own ambitions in music. Only at thirty-six did he yield, relocating with his wife and five children from Nashville, TN, to Wyoming in order to take up pastoral work.
Music nevertheless remained active in his life, prompting him to create an increasing number of songs intended to convey meaningful messages to his congregation. Shortly after the relocation, BMG Publishing contacted Howerton and secured him to a publishing agreement. Sparrow Records soon followed with a recording contract, which led to the release of his debut album, Boxing God.
