Biography
Bennett Armstrong, known professionally as Laze, and his identical twin Justyn Armstrong, who performs as Royal, are the children of Elmer Armstrong from the later-era Platters. Functioning as an autonomous songwriting and production pair, the brothers first attracted the notice of Christopher "Tricky" Stewart while still in grade school. Recording under the name 2XL, they issued the 2007 Tommy Boy album Neighborhood Rapstar, which included production contributions from Scott Storch along with two guest spots by E-40. Rebranding as Laze & Royal, they later landed a Warner Bros. agreement on the basis of the rock/reggae/pop-rap hybrid single "Like a Pistol," which the label issued the next year. That autumn they accompanied Shwayze on a U.S. tour.
