Lazenby

Although Lazenby’s moniker might suggest a connection to one of the more acclaimed portrayals of James Bond, the group actually took its title from co-founder Sarah Lazenby. Arctic Monkeys manager Geoff Barradale brought her together with Nick Lockwood, the band’s other founder, and the two quickly assembled a lineup that included bassist Tom Farmer, keyboardist Rob Gentry, and drummer Jez Wiles. Blending the vintage grooves of Fleetwood Mac and Dr. Fink with the contemporary energy of Scissor Sisters and Gogol Bordello, their hybrid style quickly drew attention, securing slots at the O2 Wireless Festival and the Edinburgh Festival. A further showcase alongside Jamiroquai at the Gumball Rally launch only heightened their profile, leading directly to a contract with the Universal imprint 206/Absolute. The single “Listening to Joni” appeared in June 2008, followed in the same month by the full-length The Loft Years.
