Biography
Chicago-based outfit Lazer Crystal fuses sharp-edged electro-rock with expansive synth-pop textures through a sleek, machine-like fluidity. The lineup centers on vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mikale De Graff, multi-instrumentalist and singer Nicholas Read, and percussionist Josh Johannpeter. De Graff and Johannpeter maintain parallel roles in Mahjongg, while the remaining members have previously performed alongside Cave and Waterbabies. The group’s inaugural release, the 2008 single Hot Pink BMX, appeared on HBSP-2X in a run of 300 copies whose covers were each hand-painted. EP1 arrived next as another limited pressing timed to Record Store Day 2009. The band then shifted to Thrill Jockey for its first full-length effort, MCMLXXX, which surfaced in May 2010.
