Biography
William Reid co-founded the Jesus & Mary Chain alongside his brother Jim. The group’s heady post-punk approach left its mark on numerous acts that surfaced in the latter half of the 1980s, among them Jane’s Addiction, the Verve, and My Bloody Valentine. Although the band attained a degree of popularity in England, it remained limited to cult standing in the United States. Once the Jesus & Mary Chain dissolved in 1998, William launched a solo path and delivered his debut release, Finbegin, under the alias Lazycame in 2001 through the Hall of Records label. Most of the album consists of spare acoustic performances, yet several pieces could readily have been Jesus & Mary Chain songs. Finbegin has been described as “early Dylan with Psychocandy’s production and Can’s experimental groove”—which isn’t too far from the truth.
