Biography
Louis Charles Robinson came into the world on 15 May 1915 in Brenham, Texas, USA, and left it on 26 September 1976. Known professionally as “Good Rockin’” Robinson, he first took up guitar at age nine and was said to have learned bottleneck technique directly from Blind Willie Johnson. Western swing musician Leon McAuliffe later showed him the steel guitar; Robinson himself became a respected blues fiddler and passed along pointers on the instrument to Sugarcane Harris. Around 1939 he relocated to the San Francisco area, where he frequently performed alongside his brother A.C. Robinson. The pair cut sides for Black And White in 1945 under the name Robinson Brothers. As L.C. Robinson he went on to record for Rhythm Records in the early 1950s, World Pacific during the 1960s, and both Arhoolie and Bluesway in the 1970s; he also backed Mercy Dee Walton and John Lee Hooker on disc. A heart attack claimed his life in September 1976.
