Swiss sextet L'Eclair crafts an ever-shifting, hard-to-pin-down style of instrumental music built around deep grooves, drawing freely from Krautrock, Afrobeat, funk, and library music to create its distinctive sound. Early releases such as the 2019 album Sauropoda preserved the spontaneous, improvisational energy of the group's live performances, whereas the expansive 2021 release Confusions marked a shift toward a more deliberate and polished studio approach.

Sébastien Bui on keyboards and guitarist Stefan Lilov formed the idea for L'Eclair in 2015 during a stay in London right after finishing high school. Once they returned to Geneva, the project gained momentum when bassist Elie Ghersinu and drummer Yavor Lilov came aboard, later rounded out by percussionist Quentin Pilet and keyboardist and cowbell player Alain Sandri. The sextet earned positive responses at Swiss venues while supporting artists including White Fence and the Mauskovic Dance Band, paving the way for the 2017 debut album Cruise Control on Rock This Town. Cut in just one day, that record quickly picked up local radio rotation and led to a heavier touring load. The follow-up Polymood was tracked in Haarlem, Netherlands, before its 2018 release on Beyond Beyond Is Beyond. Sauropoda, the third album, arrived in 2019 after being laid down in an impromptu two-day session. Issued by Bongo Joe in 2021, Confusions broadened the group's palette to include dub, hip-hop, house, and Madchester.
