In the realm of silky R&B ballads, a quintet from Philadelphia managed to score three chart successes between 1957 and 1958. The Hearts came into being under Andrews' direction during 1953, making their initial appearance on Rainbow the following year. Their debut major success, "Long Lonely Nights," reached Chess via acquisition from the small Mainline imprint in 1957. That same Mainline source had first released what became the ensemble's top-performing track on Chess, titled "Teardrops." After transferring to United Artists, 1958 saw their final chart entry, the characteristically refined "Try the Impossible." Throughout the 1960s, Andrews persisted in recording activities alongside varying members of The Hearts.
