Biography
A young Detroit native named Lemon James took up the guitar after absorbing early influences from rock legends such as Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix. Though naturally gifted, she quickly grew dissatisfied with the instruments then on the market. In 1989 she constructed a custom guitar tailored to her precise specifications and later secured a patent for the design. During the early 1990s she assembled the band Experienced and began performing at open-microphone nights throughout the Detroit region, steadily honing her skills through repeated appearances. Eventually she shifted to solo work and, around the same period, started composing original material. Her debut album, I Am a Voodoo Child, arrived in 1995 and featured several self-penned tracks alongside covers of songs first recorded by Jimi Hendrix. Five years later she issued her second album, Livin in the Sun, on the Foxey Records label; standout cuts included “Whispering Secrets,” “Get It Straight,” “Loneliness Calls,” and “Come on Over Here.” Over the course of her career Lemon James has claimed victories in multiple music competitions while touring extensively across portions of the United States and throughout Germany.
