Lennie Niehaus, recognized as an alto saxophonist and arranger, achieved his widest visibility with present-day listeners through repeated partnerships with actor Clint Eastwood on multiple films, notably Bird and the Western Unforgiven. His abilities as a performer and arranger nevertheless trace to the 1950s, when he joined Stan Kenton on two separate occasions—in 1952 and again from 1954 to 1959. As a soloist, he fuses swing, bop, and cool sensibilities without interruption.
