Having spent years immersed in New York's doo wop community, Cooper scored his sole major success via the 1962 instrumental "Wiggle Wobble." A native of Norfolk, VA, he had performed with both the Empires and the Whirlers while also managing the Charts, prior to signing with Danny Robinson's Everlast imprint and recording the vocal "Dig Yourself" alongside his Soul Rockers. The B-side—an intense instrumental take on "Wiggle Wobble" showcasing ex-Charts lead singer Joe Grier's prominent King Curtis-styled tenor sax—unexpectedly delivered Cooper's only chart action. Subsequent releases featured the comparable "Let's Do the Boston Monkey" on Enjoy.
