Biography
Emerging from West London, the indie rock group Les Incompétents achieved wider attention only after dissolving in 2006, at which point three of its members launched Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man to widespread anticipation. The six-piece lineup consisted of vocalists Billy Leeson and Fred MacPherson alongside guitarists Shaun Paterson and Christopher Burman, bassist Tommy Howson, and drummer Lawrence of Templeton. Active solely between 2004 and 2006, the band issued two singles on White Heat Records: the 2005 coupling Re-Union/Much Too Much and the 2006 release How It All Went Wrong. In 2007 a posthumous collection titled End of an Error (2004-2006) gathered the group’s entire recorded material across fifteen tracks, encompassing those singles, assorted demos, and an Xfm session recorded for John Kennedy. The split was precipitated by a violent assault that left Billy Leeson in critical condition; although he ultimately recovered, the band did not resume activities. After a final series of concerts in autumn 2006, MacPherson, Paterson, and Howson departed to form the art-rock outfit Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man. The new group secured a deal with Transgressive Records and unveiled its first recordings in 2007, quickly cultivating an online audience.
