Biography
J Lesser functions as an indie sampler terrorist caught between the insular communities built around standard drum'n'bass and experimental noise. Early work placed him in a Metallica cover band based in San Diego and alongside musicians who would later launch the indie groups Crash Worship and A Minor Forest. With 1996's Excommunicate the Cult of the Live Band he delivered the first release on the San Diego indie-electronica label Vinyl Communications. Gigolo Cop and Welcome to the American Experience arrived at one-year intervals, and a split compact disc with Kid-606 appeared in 1998. Mensa Dance Squad surfaced three years afterward. He has also performed with Matmos and Kid-606 under the name DISC and released material as 157 and Backfire.
