Zadlo stands among the scant number of Polish jazz artists to achieve global recognition. He has amassed an extensive discography exceeding eighty albums while joining American improvisers Dexter Gordon, Rashied Ali, Joe Lovano, and Billy Hart for spontaneous performances, alongside numerous leading European musicians and ensembles. Clarinet served as his initial instrument. A scholarship awarded at a Vienna contest prompted his relocation to Graz, Austria, in 1966 for studies at the Hochschule für Musik. Sideman and leadership roles occupied him throughout Austria until his 1974 move to Munich. From 1977 to 1982 he performed with the European Jazz Quintet and cut sessions with Michael Naura and poet Peter Ruhmkorff in 1978 and again in 1987. Tours alongside George Russell and Elvin Jones elevated his visibility during the 1980s, a period that also included a recording with guitarist Bireli Lagrene. In 1983 he formed the Polski Jazz Ensemble in his native Poland to back the Solidarity trade union. Germany has since hosted his teaching activities, and he has composed scores for both film and stage.
