Letty & Georgia formed as a high-energy country duo in Rising Fawn, GA, where their sound occupies the overlapping territory among rock, country, bluegrass, and folk, echoing the approach of influences Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt. Early career momentum earned them support slots alongside Doc Watson, Sawyer Brown, the Kentucky Headhunters, David Wilcox, BR549, Sam Bush, Jo Dee Messina, and Don McLean. Letty Stoneman and Georgianne George blend old-fashioned honesty with contemporary slickness while delivering bright harmonies, backed either by their full band the Cowboy Angels—Bobby Steele on bass and Ashley Smith on drums—or simply by their own acoustic guitars. The duo’s 1997 self-titled debut album earned the Chattanooga Times description “pure, unadulterated country” and found favor on public radio as well as multiple commercial stations. In 2000 they issued the follow-up CD 8 Second Ride.
