Biography
Initially based in Fort Worth, TX, the Men of the Range performed as a vocal group in the style later represented by the Riders of the Purple Sage. In 1940 the ensemble relocated to Oklahoma City, its membership at times including Lew Preston on guitar, Jake Wright on guitar, Foy Willing (eventual Purple Sage founder) on steel guitar, and Elmer Crenshaw on bass.
