Biography
Born in 1929 in McDowell County, WV, Lewis "Big Sweet" Hairston made Henry County, VA, near Martinville, his home for the greater part of his life. He first picked up the banjo near the age of eleven, shaping a clawhammer style that carries only a faint trace of bluegrass influence.
