Biography
Established in Zurich during 2013 under the direction of violinist Alexander Gilman and pianist Marina Seltenreich—with Gilman also taking the podium—the LGT Young Soloists represent the inaugural youth orchestra to appear on the historic RCA Red Seal roster. Their catalog spans both longstanding classics and fresh compositions, earning them recognition far beyond Switzerland. Sponsored by LGT Private Banking, the banking arm of Liechtenstein’s Princely Family, the ensemble stands out as an uncommon instance of a modern group operating beneath corporate patronage. Gilman originally sought to furnish gifted teenagers and young adults an opportunity to appear before live audiences; critical notices soon placed the players on equal footing with fully professional groups. At present the musicians represent fifteen nations and range in age from fourteen to twenty-three.
Their debut recording, Italian Journey, reached stores in 2015, followed two years later by Russian Soul: Works for String Orchestra. Appearances have taken them to Berlin’s Philharmonie, Vienna’s Musikverein, and Singapore’s Victoria Hall, as well as to New York, multiple cities across China, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. Featured artists have included Alma Deutscher, Juliane Banse, and Esther Yoo, while festival engagements have encompassed the Rheingau Music Festival, South Africa’s Woordfees, and the Dresden Music Festival. Three further albums appeared on RCA before the group transferred to Naxos in 2020, issuing Beethoven Recomposed, which ascended to the summit of Apple Music Video charts in over forty territories. In 2022 they moved to Orange Mountain Music to premiere Philip Glass’ Symphony No. 14, a score composed specifically for them.
