California experimental psych-rock collective Library of Sands channels its desert-themed sonic journeys into lengthy, improvisational pieces, typically tracked outside conventional studios in places like an earthship in New Mexico or a canvas shelter set up in the California badlands. Numerous sessions dating to 2010 and 2011 surfaced together in 2013 across three distinct formats: the vinyl-only Before Us, the CD-only Side to Side, and the cassette-only Wavy Heat EP, all issued within a narrow window. The latter stood out for featuring group member N. Shineywater on an abandoned roadside organ and My Bloody Valentine’s Colm O’Ciosoig on drums.

In 2014 the band issued the full-length Odd Hourglass, which included drummer Stephen McCarty, and also put out a remastered CD edition of Wavy Heat. Beyond his dense recording output, Shineywater maintained an intense touring schedule, appearing frequently abroad, at numerous festivals, and on select bills alongside Rodriguez, My Bloody Valentine, Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions, and additional acts.
