Lica Cecato

Lica Cecato, a Brazilian vocalist and guitarist, merges poetry, dance, and visual art into her jazz compositions that draw from multiple languages. Born to a saxophonist father and the granddaughter of a conductor, Cecato’s talents gained early recognition in 1985 through a full scholarship from Berklee College of Music and its Sarah Vaughan Award. Seven years afterward came her debut as a bandleader, a collaborative duo project with Italian guitarist Stefano Scutari titled Our Favorite Songs. Her contribution to the 1994 compilation Music of the World marked the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. Constelário, her initial Brazilian release in 2001, was produced by Júnior Aguiar, included appearances by Brazilian jazz guitarist Romero Lubambo among others, and received a Latin Grammy nomination. The guitarist rejoined Cecato for another live recording in 2003, while subsequent years found her performing at festivals and showcasing art exhibits across numerous international locations.
