Biography
Lichen Slow emerged from the combined efforts of affiliates drawn from Arab Strap and Team Leader, yielding the project's characteristically brooding soundscapes and introspective themes. This British pair unveiled their inaugural long-player, the self-produced Rest Lurks, during 2023.
Scotland's Malcolm Middleton of Arab Strap joined forces with England's Joel Harries, whose résumé includes Team Leader and 72%, after each had accumulated experience across sadcore, instrumental noise, and folktronica. The pair established Lichen Slow in the opening years of the 2020s and immediately began shaping their first collection. Acoustic and electronic textures were interwoven into contemplative indie rock that aligned with the duo's understatedly despondent songwriting, resulting in Rest Lurks appearing on the Rock Action imprint in March 2023; Harries served as producer and mixer throughout.
